2016 has started as a very good year in terms of domain names registrations. The American giant Verisign recently published its report on domain names in the second quarter of 2016.
The second quarter of 2016 closed with approximately 334.96 million domain names registrations across an TLDs. This represents an increase of 7,9 million registrations over the last report in the first quarter of 2016, and an increase of 38,2 million over the mid-2015 report. That is an impressive increase of 12.9% in just a year.
As one would suspect, .COM domain names still represent the overwhelming majority of registrations, with more than 127 million registrations.
Of course, new TLDs domains are equally a factor of this increase in registrations, and numerous of those are linked to cyber/typosquatting activities.
