Is TMCH efficient against cybersquatting ?

April 11, 2016

The Trade Mark Clearing House (TMCH) was created for the launch of the new gTLDs with two precise objectives: to allow trademark holders to register domain names in priority on the one hand and to alert them of cybersquatting attempts on the other hand.

Today, as almost 1000 new top-level domains have been delegated into the root zone, TMCH is well-known and its mechanisms have been well-tested. But is it really efficient ?

It is the question that ICANN wants to answer. The firm Analysis Group was retained by ICANN to call out for public comments on the efficiency of the TMCH. The questionnaire is available here and should be sent to this address.

While a second round of new gTLDs is projected in the near future, ICANN wants to make sure its tools are fully relevant. We already mentioned the review of the UDRP procedure.

The comments are open until April 15.
