ICANN tests Internet root before transition

April 11, 2016

It is now on the record : the IANA functions (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), which have been undertaken by ICANN since 1998, will be transitioned to the international stakeholders community. In this regard, the last ICANN Meeting in Marrakech was crucial in initiating the transition process.

Recently, ICANN has announced a partnership with Verisign in order to test the impact of this transition on the root of the internet. This 90-days test is a key step for the security and integrity of the data contained in the root zone and will ensure the stability of the network during and after the transition.

As of today, the successful completion of the IANA transition is projected for September 2016.

To be followed.
