The market’s new gTLDs bubble seems to have no end – as reflected by the four extensions purchase offer of $ 5 million. Thus, the current CEO of XYZ Registry, Daniel Negari, wrote on March 30 a letter to Rightside proposing to purchase the following four extensions: .ARMY (1200 domains registered), .DANCE (5000 domains), .DENTIST (less than 3000 domains) and .VET (about 5400 domains). These extensions did not achieve a high level of success accumulating less than 15,000 domain names registered in total.
The .XYZ Registry currently manages six extensions (.XYZ, .RENT, .COLLEGE, .SECURITY, .THEATRE and .PROTECTION). Among these six extensions, only .XYZ achieved a good registration score with over 2.5 million domains. Let’s keep in mind the disputed practices related to the .XYZ registration (see our news dated 11 June 11, 2014).
We can’t wait to see whether Daniel Negari will be able to purchase and redress these four fragile extensions.
