NTIA

The surprising announcement of the NTIA (the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration) may well be the silver lining of the recent NSA spying scandal cloud!

Indeed, this Friday 14th March 2014 NTIA announced its intent to no less than transition key Internet domain name functions to the global multistakeholder community.

As the first step of this process, NTIA is asking ICANN to convene global stakeholders to develop a proposal to transition the current role played by NTIA in the coordination of the Internet’s domain name system (DNS).

No doubt this will be abundantly discussed this week at the ICANN's Singapore meeting (23 to 27 March). Stay tuned, as we shall report.
