French railway company jumps on the .BRANDS bandwagon

June 2, 2017

The French railway company SNCF has announced that they intend to use their .SNCF extension which was delegated into the root of the Internet in late 2014.

SNCF's offer is deemed to evolve, leaving their famous website voyages-sncf.com on the sidelines. This website is the largest commercial website in France in terms of net sales, far ahead of Amazon or eBay. As from November 2017, all train ticket purchases will be made on the new website oui.sncf.

This change is part of a new brand strategy initiated a couple of years ago with SNCF's low cost offer OuiGo.

The new identity of the ticket booking website again shows the ever-growing importance of .BRAND top-level domains.

The technical modalities and conditions of the second window of new gTLD applications are still being discussed at ICANN, and its opening is currently planned for 2019 or 2020. The time has come for companies to contemplate applying for the delegation of their .BRAND top-level domain.

IP Twins may help you with the ICANN process, from feasibility studies to the registration of your domain names in your own TLD Registry.
