Walden Savings Bank recently announced that it will move from a .com to a more secure .bank domain name extension.
The extension was created a few years ago by a group of banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions seeking to improve security during online banking transactions. .Bank domain registrations are available only to these institutions and proof must be submitted prior to reservation.
Unlike .com domain names which can be registered by anybody and therefore by persons who can then set up fake banking websites and email addresses which are then used to deceive customers into giving away personal information, the advanced encryption methods which owners of .bank websites must use can help prevent users from being redirected to fake banking websites and therefore make online banking transactions more secure for all parties.
