March 6, 2017 In early February, the .bg Register, which manages the .bg ccTLD (Bulgaria), announced the start of a 3 months Sunrise Period for the launch of the .БГ, the cyrillic equivalent of .bg.
This new TLD will only accept cyrillic characters, 0-9 digits and a hyphen (“-“). The policies and procedures currently governing the “.bg” extension will also apply to the new “.БГ”. The TLD will be open to EU residents and corporate entities registered in an EU country.
The registry will accept Sunrise registration requests until 8 may 2017. The domain names will be allocated after this date. The registry has set an order of priority in the event of two requests for the same domain name:
Domain names reserved for the Government, state administration (etc…);
Applicants who already have “.bg” domain names in cyrillic (eg. Домейн.bg);
Applicants who have grounds to register the requested domain name, i.e. surname, registered trademark (in cyrillic), company or trade name;
Applicants who do not have specific grounds to register the requested domain name.
In case of competing applications among n°s 3 or 4 above, domain names will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis (eg. two different holders of identical trademarks).
Following the Sunrise period and the allocation of Sunrise applications, “.БГ” will enter a “general availability” period. It should be noted that the registration of a domain name under “.БГ” will automatically block the “.bg” equivalent, if available, in favour of the same registrant.
