February 27, 2017
On 6 February 2017, the .INK extension was finally approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Chinese residents can now register and host domain names with this extension in China. This is the sixth new gTLD in the Latin alphabet to gain MIIT approval and has been generally available outside of China since 2014.
Not only will this TLD be of interest to artists, writers and printers but will also be of great importance to the general Chinese population on a cultural level as ink is at the origin of all Chinese traditional arts, including calligraphy and watercolour painting. Calligraphy is particularly revered as an art form in China so the “.INK” extension will be particularly appreciated.
The following IDNs have also received MIIT approval in China:
.在线 « .online » .中文网 « .chinese website » .集团 « .group » .我爱你 « .Iloveyou »
