Donuts is decidedly insatiable. After announcing its wish to detain more and more top-level domains in new extensions last May, the domain names giant has just announced its acquisition of the .IRISH extension.
This extension is aimed primarily at Irish individuals and companies, it is however not restricted. One may say the TLD has not been a major success : only 2000 .IRISH domain names have been registered since its launch last summer.
This acquisition neverthreless extends the protection of trademarks on new gTLDs, since Donuts' DPML will naturally apply.
The DPML (Donuts Protected Marks List) allows holders of trademarks recorded with the TMCH to block the registration of identical or similar domain names among the extensions held by Donuts.
With the purchase of the .IRISH, Donuts now owns 198 top-level domains.
