On 5 December, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) approved the hosting of the .VIP, .CLUB and .XYZ domain name extensions in China. This change is important because previously, Chinese registrars could propose the registration of these new gTLDs domains for their Chinese customers but were prohibited from activating and hosting them in China. The hosting had to be done outside China. From now on, these three new gTLDs can be registered, activated, and hosted locally which could significantly increase their use in the Chinese market and overseas.
As these extensions are very popular in China, this approval could lead to an increase in the number of registrations for .VIP, .CLUB and .XYZ domains not only for legitimate purposes, but also for counterfeiting and cybersquatting.
If you have not yet registered your .VIP, .CLUB and .XYZ domains, you can contact our team at email@example.com.
