The success of the new top-level domain names is undeniable. ICANN who oversees the domain naming system on a global level has just published a study on the matter.
There are now almost 25 million new gTLD domain names registered including .EMAIL, .STORE or .ADULT, whereas we only counted 3 million registrations two years ago.
These registrations now represent almost 10% of the total number of registered domain names!
This increases the possibilities of cyberquatting, as suggested by the large increase of out-of-court procedures against domain names in new top-level extensions.
We highly recommend monitoring new registrations of domain names to best protect your immaterial assets. Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional information on this matter.
