Beware of confusing emails regarding domain renewals

October 17, 2016

Domain name renewal is of paramount importance for owners which is why we take particular care of this at IP Twins. For this reason, we would like to draw your attention to an activity practiced by “DOMAIN SEO SERVICE”. The activity involves the sending of automatic renewal notices to domain name holders whose domain names have imminent expiry dates.

These emails are sent to each domain name owner with a least one of said owner’s domain names indicated in the subject matter of the email followed by the word “Expiration”. The notification is presented as an official notice concerning an “Expiration Offer Notification”.

These emails appear to have be sent with the intention of leading the domain name owners into believing that the notice is from their/ an official registrar by including information on the domain name and other details such as an enrollment period similar to the domain name registration period, price indicated as a one off payment and a term of 1 year similar to the usual domain name registration period.

The service on offer is called an enrollment service, i.e. SEO Service Enrollment. The real nature of the service is to be found in the description and in the disclaimer which appears in small type at the bottom of the email. These indications reveal that the offer is a “traffic generator software” which provides SEO optimization for the domain name in question.

THIS IS NEITHER a reminder from your registrar NOR a legitimate SEO service. On the contrary, it has the appearance of a SPAM or PHISHING operation set up with the aim of obtaining payments or login information from domain name holders.

“Domain SEO Service Registration Corp., Miami Beach, FL 33139” operates with the email address info@cl86.net. The domain cl86.net is registered to China Capital, Hong Kong, info@chinacapital.com. Said China Capital registered thousands of domains among which “bt-turkey.com”, “leroutard58.com”, thyssenkruppkrauseinc.com” etc. Those are CYBERSQUATTERS.

In case of doubt regarding the authenticity of emails received on the subject of their domain names, owners should contact their registrar without delay.

IP Twins may also be contacted via your account manager’s email or at the following address: info@iptwins.com.
